Heol Senni Village Hall update 08/02/2011
by Richard Norgate
Fund raising
The match funding contribution from Barclays for the Sponsored Walk (£750) has been paid. The gift aid repayment is in the process of being reclaimed.
We have had a very active and financially rewarding social / fund raising programme which has included the following:
- Car boot sale - we participated in the one at Abercrave on the morning of Sunday 8th August. (Takings were modest!)
- Senni sports and barbecue was held on September 12th.
- Phil Havard educated and entertained with an Antiques Quiz evening in Maescar Community Hall on October 1st.
- The race night in the Abercam on October 16th was very successful and touched people outside our normal fund-raising orbit. It reflected the thorough preparation for the event by the organising team.
- The coffee morning in Bishop Bevan Hall took place on October 22nd.
- The Valley dinner at the White House on February 5th attracted 47 people.
- Donations from people having stone from the old toilet block are ongoing.
The remaining proposed fund raising events to be planned are:
- Bag-packing in Morrisons.
- A beetle drive.
Many thanks to everyone who helped organise or participated in the above events. It helps us prove to funders that we are worth supporting!
VAT
We are receiving our repayments satisfactorily.
Grants - new applications
The WAG has declined to fund our proposed repairs to the existing Hall under CFAP. We shall take up their offer of a feedback session to see if we can enhance our prospects for funding from this source in future.
Grants - existing
Community Renewal (£25,000 awarded) - PAVO
This grant was awarded for the construction of the outer shell of the extension. The full amount has now been received and all project documentation completed to the satisfaction of PAVO.
Can Do Communities – PAVO
The grant covers the provision of the ramp, the handrail and the disabled parking space. Work has been completed on the access ramp. The handrailing has been purchased and needs to be fitted by us. It is intended to create the disabled parking space by 28th February.
Can Do Communities – PAVO
A grant was obtained for the provision of a new electricity supply to the extension and the opportunity was taken to place the existing supply to the Hall underground. This work has now been carried out and the remaining 10% of the grant will be reclaimed next week.
Powys County Council
We have been awarded grants under the Community & Neighbourhood Fund and the Welsh Church Acts to assist with the fitting out of the new extension. The maximum amount payable under this scheme is £18,000. The exact amount paid is 21% of the total level of allowable expenditure on the whole project.
Building works
- The remaining works for the interior fit-out phase of the extension are the installation of the electrical fittings, sanitaryware, doors and window sills. In addition the floor needs to be screeded.
- The installation of the kitchen, decoration of the interior and the fitting of the floorcovering should be the only remaining items at the end of February.
- The interior layout was changed to give increased capacity for the Ladies toilets.
Future building works
The condition of the roof on the main Hall is deteriorating rapidly and should be the priority for expenditure.
